A Socio Cultural Organization known as “Igbo Think Tank” is appealing to the G5 governors also known as integrity governors to endorse the Labour Party as preferred Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi ahead of 2023 general election.

The appeal was made in the 4th edition of Igbo International Xmas retreat held in Umuahia the Abia state capital on Wednesday.

In a communiqué issued after the the event, the group observed that while insecurity in other parts of the country has criminality and religious extremism, that of south east has protest colouration stressing that presidency of Igbo extraction would douse the tension.

The chairman of the occasion ably represented by the National president, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Youth wing, Okechukwu Isingwuzo insisted that it is the turn of Igbo race to produce the next president since two major tribes (Hausa and Yoruba) has taken a turn of producing Nigerian president except Ndi Igbo.

The board of trustee chairman of the group and a professor of virology, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Professor Maduike Ezeibe said the G5 governors throwing their weight behind obi would be a smart move to reclaim what they lost during the congress.

He decried that political parties has jettisoned rotation which was established to guide the country in its choice of leaders.

He preached peace stressing that Igbo tribe needs a secured and Prosperous Nigeria more than any other tribe because of their numerous investments scattered all over the country.

The virology Professor frowned that the eastern region is under developed because of less investment in the area and advised Igbos to attract investors as well as invest in the region to increase its GDP.

His word, “…instead of Igbo’s moving out of Igbo-land to develop other places, let us attract people from other states of Nigeria and from other countries to Igbo land to patronize our goods and services.”

in a welcome speech by the leader, Nzuko Ndigbo asked those from the region to consider supporting the presidency of Peter Obi.

His word, “…let us note that Ndigbo have a big political challenge in 2023 as our son, Peter Obi is a leading presidential candidate. While Ndigbo should not put their eggs in one basket, we must remember that Nke a bu nkeanyi.”

In his submission, one of the guest speaker, Hon. Nnamdi Ikechukwu blamed the insecurity in the country on what he described as “Ethnic jingoism” where ethnicity is used as a yardstick to determine a candidate who is qualified for a political position.

In their respective speeches, they bemoan Igbos who do not support the Labour Party presidential candidate but cry for equity in turn.
