Armed  men of the Nigeria Navy have been alleged to have shot at a  vehicle conveying three brothers who were on their way back from work on Monday 9th August,2021, killing one person, injuring others in Anambra State.

According to a survivor, Nebolisa Amaku who narrated the ugly incident, said the tragic event happened at Nteje in Oyi local government area of  Anambra State.

Nebolisa affirmed  that men of the Nigeria navy, carried out the attack which instantly killed his cousin, Chukwuma Adazu, while  himself and his elder  brother, Chukwunonso Nebolisa survived with serious bullet injuries and still receiving treatment at a medical facility.

According to Clement, their vehicle was riddled with live bullets by the  Naval personnel at the said location.

In his words: “ I Was returning from the site where I do dredging at Aguleri, by my time record, it was about 7pm. I was in company of  my elder brother Chukwunonso Nebolisa and my cousin  Chukwuma Adazu.

On getting to the check point along Nteje in Oyi local government area of Anambra State,  popularly known as Awkuzu junction, Navy officers stationed at the point opened fire on  our vehicle. My cousin Chukwuma Adazu died on the spot. I and my elder brother sustained bullet injuries.

“The  Naval officers who shot at us came closer, on realising we were unarmed, they  helped stop a vehicle that took us to the hospital.

“We got a police report to that effect before my cousin’s body  was  deposited in the mortuary.”

The victims also gave an account of how a squad from the Nigerian police came and took his brother and other siblings from the hospital where they were being attended to medically.

“While at the hospital receiving treatment, between the hours of 10pm to 11pm, some men identified as Police officers from the State Anti Robbery squad (SARS) which I suspected to be,  as also said by the hospital security officers, but they were on mufti. They  came in and took my elder brother who was operated on by a specialist on Tuesday alongside my two younger brothers namely Kingsley Nebolisa and Innocent Nebolisa who were at the hospital taking care of us.

“I was awake, so I had to hide before they came into the ward were I was receiving treatment”

One of those taken from the hospital to the police station  by the men of the Nigeria police, Kingsley Nebolisa, claimed that they were tortured by the policemen at the police station.

His exact words: “what I saw there was hell, I was hanged. They invaded the hospital in a commando style, they picked me and my elder brother who was just out from surgery, it was when we got to their vehicle, I affirmed my thoughts they they were members of SARS from OKuzor police station.

“They took off our clothes and asked us to lie-down on the floor and we were there till morning. I was taken to a room and hanged, they tagged us unknown gunmen.

“As we got to police station, I was tortured with a rod by a policeman  I was stamped to the ground. I became very scared of my life because no one knew my whereabout.”

Candidreporters.com put a call across to the Anambra state police public relation officer, DSP Ikenga. He however declined comment on the mater and referred our correspondent to Lieutenant  Ajiko, the PRO of the Navy command of Anambra state. He also declined comment for a reason that he is in charge of public relations not Operations. He however gave the phone number of Lieutenant Enubiak, who was said to be  in charge of operations in Anambra state. Enubiak:s number given by Lieutenant Atiko was tried several times and never connected as the time of filing this report.
