The federal government of Nigeria has condemned Bauchi, Katsina, Kebbi, and Kano’s governors for sending children away from school to observe Ramadan. The Governors gave a mandated for a five-week closure of schools for the Ramadan fast. The Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad in a statement on Wednesday said “There is no religious basis for shutting down schools during Ramadan. The IPU is a global organisation of national parliaments. It promotes peace, democracy and sustainable development among nations through diplomacy and dialogue. It also seeks to strengthen international parliaments and make them more effective. The Rivers State House of Assembly resumed plenary on Wednesday amid reports that lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, prevented Governor Siminalayi Fubara from presenting the 2025 budget. The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued an arrest warrant for Justice Adolphus Enebeli (Retd.), the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), and four other commissioners following their failure to appear before the Assembly.
