Public servants under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council have reaffirmed their September 30, 2026, ultimatum to the Federal Government over the rising cost of petrol, the demand for a wage award and the commencement of negotiations for a new national minimum wage. Former Nigerian Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar has been featured in promotional material by an Indian hospital following his knee replacement surgery there. The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows Mr Abubakar receiving care at Krishna Shalby Hospital in Ahmedabad, India, including footage of him walking and exercising after the procedure. Chimamanda Adichie, Nigerian author, and her husband, Ivara Esege, have asked the Lagos high court to dismiss a suit filed by Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital seeking to halt the coroner’s inquest into the death of their son, Nkanu Adichie-Esege. Kemi Pinheiro, counsel for Adichie and Esege, told the court on Monday that the suit filed by the hospital was “premature”. The Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said a government led by the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would reintroduce fuel subsidy, but through a different approach. Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor, said this during an interview while discussing fuel pricing and the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and other petroleum marketers have reduced the prices of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) across major depots in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Warri, following a decline in international crude oil prices. The reductions were recorded in the latest depot price report published by Petroleumprice.ng, with the biggest adjustments seen in Lagos, where several operators cut their petrol prices by between N20 and N24 per litre.
