President Bola Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately vacate the court order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun state government. The president announced the decision in a statement issued on Thursday. TInubu said although he respects the independence of anti-corruption agencies, the timing of the EFCC’s action, coming days before the August 15 governorship election in Osun, could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

176 persons abducted during the February 3, 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state have regained their freedom. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reportedly frozen an Osun State Government account domiciled with the First Bank, just 10 days before the state’s governorship election. According to documents obtained by Vanguard, the account, said to be used for the payment of workers’ salaries, was placed on a “Post No Debit” restriction by the anti-graft agency. The development came hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke alleged that the EFCC was planning to freeze the state’s accounts and those of top government officials.
