NIP bulk compliance has been highlighted as the main setback causing the delay of crediting the accounts of some staff of the Abia State University, Uturu.

NIP Bulk is the NIBSS Instant Payment Bulk service. With NIP bulk, one can be able to initiate a single debit to multiple beneficiaries at a time.

Recall that some staff of the institution recently staged a protest at the institution’s main campus on the bottlenecks in accessing their April, May and June salary as well as 11 months backlog owed by previous administration.

The cause of the setback on payment of some ABSU staff was revealed on Thursday by Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser to the governor on media and publicity.

In a radio interview in Umuahia on Thursday, Ekeoma explained that because their salaries are transferred in bulk, the monies were sent into their various accounts and most of the staff uses microfinance accounts which operate with an old system that doesn’t support an automated banking system.

“Because the whole system is now automated, the system changed, that NIP Bulk compliance automatically affected them. You weren’t able to get the money until the banks complied, that was the issue and this was resolved on Tuesday”. Ekeoma said.

Ekeoma stated that the problem was from the government and the bank and it has been resolved as some has started receiving their salaries.

Ekeoma emphasized that the government of Governor Alex Otti is poised to ensure that all staff of ABSU and others in the state will constantly receive their pay as at when due. He also assured that the 11 months backlog salary of the staff of the institution, owed by previous administration will be given attention as governor Otti has assured.

On repositioning the institution, Ekeoma stated that a lot is being done to reposition and bring sanity to the university.

“The truth is that the institution is collapsing and it is not in our own interest, we are not going to let it happen, whatever the government is going to do, it will be done in due process for the overall interest of our people.” Ekeoma said.
