Abia State Honoured For Tourism Drive As Hon. Iheanyi Frank Chinasa Represents Governor Alex Otti At Nigeria Entertainment And Economic Roundtable
The second edition of the Nigeria Entertainment and Economic Roundtable (NEER) held recently in Abuja brought together stakeholders from across Nigeria’s cultural, tourism, and entertainment sectors under the theme: “Culture and Tourism: Unlocking Possibilities and Locating Pathways to Rapid Economic Diversification.”
At the prestigious event, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, was honoured with an Award of Recognition for Exceptional Dedication to Promoting Tourism and Cultural Development in the state. The Governor was ably represented by Hon. Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, who delivered a compelling message on behalf of the state.
In his address, Hon. Chinasa emphasized the pivotal role that culture and tourism play in driving economic diversification, creating employment, and fostering cultural exchange. He noted that these sectors, often overlooked, hold enormous potential for inclusive growth and sustainable development in Nigeria.
“Culture and tourism are more than just expressions of identity—they are powerful economic assets. They fuel job creation, attract investment, preserve heritage, and promote social cohesion,” he said.
He went on to highlight the efforts of the Abia State Government through the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, noting strategic initiatives aimed at revitalizing cultural sites and boosting tourism.
Among the key projects mentioned were the ongoing plans to collaborate with the Federal Government to revamp the National War Museum and the Ojukwu Bunker in Umuahia, transforming them into world-class tourism destinations that can attract both local and international visitors.
According to Hon. Chinasa, these efforts are part of Governor Alex Otti’s broader vision of harnessing culture and creativity as levers for economic transformation. Through intentional investments, partnerships, and policies,
“Abia State is poised to become a cultural and tourism hub in the Southeast region”. Hon Chinasa said.
Culture and tourism are interconnected sectors that have shown impressive potential globally. They contribute significantly to GDP, generate employment across diverse fields, and enhance a country’s soft power.
In Nigeria, with its rich tapestry of traditions, languages, festivals, and historical landmarks, the cultural sector presents untapped opportunities for growth and development.
Tourism, on the other hand, drives foreign exchange earnings, boosts infrastructure, and encourages regional development. When these sectors are nurtured together—as Abia State is currently doing—they become powerful engines for inclusive and sustainable economic development.
As Nigeria continues to explore pathways to economic diversification beyond oil, events like the Nigeria Entertainment and Economic Roundtable serve as vital platforms for cross-sector dialogue and actionable policy direction.
“Abia State, under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, is leading by example, showing how culture and tourism can be elevated into strategic drivers of prosperity and progress”. Hon Chinasa said
