The Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises-Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) Project in Umuahia, Abia state on Wednesday held A-One day meeting with incubatees and incubators of the project, for the purpose of educating them on disbursement of working capital and other conducts.

The state Project Coordinator, Dr Uchenna Rowland Onyeizu, while declaring the meeting open revealed that the project will be empowering about 56 of the incubators in the current batch.

Dr Onyeizu, advised the incubatees to remain disciplined under the tutelage of their incubators.

In his words; “If they don’t graduate you, you won’t graduate, you need their blessings too.”

Dr Onyeizu also advised the incubators to continue to manage the incubatees and never to lord over them.

On the progress of the project so far, Dr Onyeizu revealed that two clusters are been built at Abayi Ohanze community and Umuode Ihie community.

“These clusters are what we will use for subsequent training.” Dr Onyeizu revealed.

Chief Kelechi Oyeamachi, the State Procurement Officer for Abia LIFE-ND project added that the meeting is a forum created to educate the incubators and incubatees on the procurement process.

“We are going to take all the inputs out and procure them centrally and give to the incubatees. We are educating them to know all the working details” Chief Kelechi said.

Chief Kelechi explained the inputs to be, a-day old chicks, feeds, fertilizer, the equipment for oil production (palm oil) and cassava processing equipment.

Ahunanya George, an oil palm processor from Ukwa West spoke to candidreporters.com after the event .

He said; “We were gathered for the purpose of educating us on most of the things we don’t know. They impacted knowledge to us and other reminding issues.

” All these while we were ignorant about the pure journey of the project, we taught it was foul play. We can see that LIFE-ND is really unlike other governmental program.

“We are been settled, we have been lectured and mentored on areas we know and don’t know, they have been so wonderful to us. I appreciate much of the SPC and his state crew.

“One of the knowledge was on the working capital been given, we are to invested and pay back.” George said.

Florence Chinemerem Obike, an incubatee from Umuahia South, attached to Epic farm, Umutowe, Olokoro, trained in the poultry business also spoke to candidreporters.com

“We have been given hope of receiving our start-up capital and I so much believe in them. We were in the office yesterday, we were told that we will be in this batch been this month.

“We have been given space for our pen, we are going there tomorrow for clean up.” Florence said with excitement.

Florence reveled that she is a university graduate who has searched for white collar job for long before getting an opportunity with Abia LIFE-ND. She however thanked Abia state government and Abia LIFE-ND team for their relentless effort to see them through.

“I advise youths to stop the long search for white collar jobs and venture into poultry business.” Florence added.

The LIFE-ND Project is being funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development(IFAD). The project is ongoing in the nine Niger-Delta States.

Also involved in the project are the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, The Federal Ministry of Finance, budget and National Planning, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the United Nations.
