The Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises-Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) Project, in Abia state, on Tuesday, as part of the six-agric business training program visited Ups farm at Nbawsi,  Isi-alangwa north local government area of Abia state

Dr. Uchenna Rowland Onyeizu, the project co-coordinator and his team supervised the activities of incubators and incubatees around the poultry facilities of Ups Farm, Mbawsi.

According to Dr. Uchenna, the tour with the incubates is for the purpose of integrating them into agro business so that they can stand on their own and be able to manage their farm in terms of accounting, livestock management and administration.

Dr. Uchenna revealed that the visit to the agro integrated farm is part of the practical aspect of the training package.

His words: “It’s all about agriculture and what they need to. After now, in the next three months, those on poultry farm will be empowered with not less than 500 birds.

“The project is going to supply the input that will grow those birds till maturity and once it grows, as development agency, we are not interested in the profit rather the directly beneficiaries will take up the profit in the activity they are engage in and this is done on the value chain of the four commodity we are working on in Abia state.“

He also added that the project is targeting 4,250 direct beneficiaries within Abia state but for financial reasons, ten local governments across the three senatorial zones of Abia state, were selected. He however expressed hopes for other communities in the next batch.

Some of the beneficiaries of the project spoke to pressmen about their experience.

“I learnt a lot in terms of the basics of agriculture, I learnt how to write a business plan and how businesses grow, but we are still expecting the empowerment that comes with it. I so much appreciate all that made this project a success. ” Ogbonna Ikechukwu, said.

One of the physically challenged among the incubatees  expressed his inclusion into the project package.

“This program will help my life, I grasped a lot that will help me excel in poultry business, this will really  help me to take care of myself and my family, as a physically challenged person, I love this project. This skill will not only bring food but also progress to our life. It will make us not to feel cheated in the society or feel we are in a bad condition.” Joshua Obani said.

Maxwel Ejokobi also shared his exciting experience: “I have learnt how I will treat my beds, and do everything needed for the farm to grow.

“I appreciate all the efforts of the organizers, the state government for the responding timely to the federal government counter fund and the federal government too for making it possible. They all  did excellently well. From all what have happened so far, we the youths are happy and have benefited a lot.”
