Professor Nnenna, the Abia State Electoral Officer of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has adjourned collation of results in Abia State till Tuesday 21, 2023 due to directives from the national headquarters of INEC.

According to Professor Nnenna, a directive was gotten from the national headquarters of INEC to suspend the collation of results from Obingwa local government area of Abia State.

According to Clement Oha the administrative officer of INEC, in Abia state who read the letter from INEC which he said was sent to his mail, reads that; “It will be recalled that our office in Obingwa Local Government Area was invaded by thugs yesterday Sunday 19th March 2023 and our officials held hostage in relation to the collation of results from the Local Government Area. Similarly, reports from Enugu State call for a review of the results for the Governorship election from the two outstanding Local Government Areas of Nsukka and Nkanu East.

“Consequently, the Commission hereby suspends the collation of results in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and the two outstanding Local Government Areas of Enugu State which are yet to be collated. A review will be undertaken immediately before the process is concluded.”

Professor Nnenna in conclusion added that she has also been briefed by Festus Okeye, national commissioner for information of INEC and Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, INEC Chairman.

She immediately announced that the collation session has adjourned till when INEC team will arrive Abia tomorrow for assessment of all results collated and that of Obingwa local government area remains suspended until INEC team from the national headquarters arrives and makes statement.
